From Shay Arave, President Pure Energy Rx Pure Energy Rx August, 2003, Portland, Oregon, USA Dear Readers, Summertime is vacation time for the children, my favorite span of time as I have more free time to spend with my nieces and nephews. This past weekend with three joyful and beautiful children we enjoyed a variety of outside activities: gymnastic demonstrations on the patio, art projects in the meditation studio, and the bathing and grooming of our family pet, Heart, an adorable six-month old Lhasa Apso. These activities with the children began my thoughts around self-care and the process of development that happens as we first begin to learn, as children, how to care for our mind, body and soul. As we think back as adults, our parents demonstrated our first impetus towards self-care. Those examples early on began our journey towards how we live today as adults. Staring down into the mouths of little ones with the brushing of teeth, "touch up" as we call it, I saw sheer joy they have in doing something so important for their bodies now, and into the years to come. Beautiful white teeth, pink gums and the beauty of no fillings began me thinking, Here is how I started out. Where I am now is something very different, with my share of gold crowns and a set of teeth having served me for a good number of years. As adults we have the opportunity to set a healthy and conscious example for the children around us. During my visit to Le Sport this past June, I gave myself the chance for self-discovery--or re-discovery--of all my thoughts, feelings and emotions towards my own self-care, and the highs and lows that have gotten me to this point in my life. In the article linked below, I will share my journey to one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots on the face of the earth. With the sharing of the setting and activities possible at Le Sport, comes the programmed thoughts around what it means to slow down, relax and care for yourself in a way not easily found in the hectic stress-filled life of the 21st century adult. I discovered that caring for myself without the usual distractions of cell phones, e-mails, and stacks of mail, was not as easy as I had first planned. That what I had grown accustomed to over the years was hard to let go of--a kind of security, signaling all was well. For the "Body Holiday," Le Sport says to its guests: "Give us your body for a week and we'll give you back your mind." Funny, I did know I was missing something...and am grateful for the re-discovery.
In vibrant health,
