Detachment Means to Dive In

dive The Buddha taught that detachment, one of the disciplines on the Noble Path, is not a physical act of withdrawal or even a form of austerity. Though the Buddha teaches of a "non-action which is an integral part of the Right Way," if it is taken out of context, can give the impression that we should develop a lack of concern for others, and that we should live without truly feeling or expressing our emotions--cutting ourselves off from life. Here are four ways to detach by diving in.

Selfless Love (Maitri) - Buddhist Zen master, Thich Naht Hanh, describes Maitri in terms of detachment is accepting that certain things you would normally do to make another person feel loved and appreciated may not be what the person you are actively loving now needs. Instead of forcing that behavior on another person, with an egoic intent to "please" them, you simply detach from that need in yourself, and truly observe what makes another person feel comfortable, safe, and happy.

Compassion (Karuna) - When we let go, we don't stop offering a compassionate touch, word, or deed to help someone who is in pain. We also don't expect to take their hurt or pain away. Compassion contains deep concern, though. It is not aloofness. It is not isolation from others.

Gratitude and Joy - In truly letting go, you practice gratitude. Mudita, or joy, arises when we are overcome with gratitude for all that we have, such that we no longer cling to some other longed-for result. The Buddha's definition of joy is more like "Unselfish joy." It means that we don't only find happiness when something good happens to us, but when others find happiness.

Equanimity (Upeksha) - True equanimity is neither cold nor indifferent. If you have more than one child, they are all your children. Upeksha does not mean that you don't love. You love in a way that all your children receive your love, without discrimination. It is an inclusive expansion of love.

QUANTUM HEALTH TIP: Observing detachment as a "diving in" allows the mind to focus on the present, and creates a field of peace around you. Amplify that field by wearing our Inner Peace Crystal.

Deepak Chopra Sums up The Power of One

oneness So ingrained is the (universe as a) machine metaphor that it has taken centuries to realize that it has a fatal flaw. The human body and the universe operate as a single wholeness that cannot be explained mechanically or even logically. The general public has a vague acquaintance that quantum physics changed how science views space, time, matter, and energy. What escapes general notice, however, is the revolution that followed the quantum revolution. Since roughly World War II, the following activities of the universe have sent science scrambling to find a rational explanation:

  • Cause and effect breaks down at the quantum level, and along with it so does time. There is a phenomenon known as reverse causation whereby a future event affects a previous one.
  • Two elementary particles can be identically matched so that when one changes its properties, its twin responds simultaneously, no matter how far away it might be.
  • Through a principle known as quantum entanglement, two particles separated by billions of light years can act without physical communication, thus defying the speed of light and ultimately demolishing the concept of space.
  • The infant universe was so finely calibrated that a change in any one of a dozen constants by as little as one part in a billion would have prevented our universe from emerging as it exists today. The infant universe would either have collapsed upon itself or flown apart so fast that atoms and molecules would never have formed.
  • Every solid object in the universe has a separate existence at the quantum level as merely a ripple or wave in the quantum field, thus demolishing the notion that there is a small building block in nature that is the irreducible "thing" from which the cosmos is constructed.
  • One could go on, but the upshot of these discoveries is that mathematically speaking, as well as in real-time experiences, the notion of the universe as a machine with tiny moving parts governed by space, time, and everyday logic is totally false. Noted physicists, including the late Stephen Hawking, declare that there is no longer a guarantee that the advanced theories of modern physics actually match reality.
There's every reason to drop the whole analogy of the machine, but what to put in its place? The answer advanced by more and more scientists is "wholeness." Since space, time, matter, energy, and everyday logic aren't truly fundamental, it makes sense that whatever controls space, time, matter, and energy must be the universes overriding reality. Wholeness exerts a force, call it "the power of one," that goes beyond physical forces. Since the power of one controls both creation and destruction, it transcends death. There is a good likelihood that death is no longer even a viable concept. Instead, eternal consciousness should be considered our foundation. And thus:
  • The individual self with its ego-driven demands is supported by the false notion that every person is a separate entity, isolated and alone. In fact, we are all an activity of the universe, requiring the power of one to exist in a physical body.
  • We are attached to our individual thoughts, but this too is an illusion. There is every reason to believe that cosmic mind is the only mind. Therefore, what we think is only an outcropping in the activity of this cosmic mind.
QUANTUM HEALTH TIP: This Oneness solution to the machine universe is available to everyone through meditation and mindfulness of the present moment. Use our Meditation Elixirs to assist in coming into meditative states easily.

Feeling Gratitude Literally Changes Your Brain

gratitude Scientists have discovered that feelings of gratitude can actually change your brain. Feeling gratitude can also be a great tool for overcoming depression and anxiety. Furthermore, scientists have discovered that the heart sends signals to the brain.

Many of us are always looking toward external factors to experience joy and happiness, when really it's all related to internal work. This is something science is just starting to grasp as well, as shown by research coming out of UCLA's Mindfulness Awareness Research Center. According to them:

Having an attitude of gratitude changes the molecular structure of the brain, keeps gray matter functioning, and makes us healthier and happier. When you feel happiness, the central nervous system is affected. You are more peaceful, less reactive and less resistant. Now that's a really cool way of taking care of your well-being.
There are many studies showing that people who count their blessings tend to be far happier and experience less depression. For one study, researchers recruited people with mental health difficulties, including people suffering from anxiety and depression. The study involved nearly 300 adults who were randomly divided into three groups. This study came from the University of California, Berkeley.

All groups received counselling services, but the first group was also instructed to write one letter of gratitude to another person every week for three weeks, whereas the second group was asked to write about their deepest thoughts and feelings about negative experiences. The third group did not do any writing activity.

What did they find? Compared to the participants who wrote about negative experiences or only received counselling, those who wrote gratitude letters reported significantly better mental health for up to 12 weeks after the writing exercise ended.

QUANTUM HEALTH TIP: A stressful environment can effectively block feelings of gratitude, making it difficult or impossible to achieve the mindfulness necessary to rise to the level of gratitude. Use our E-1 Formula to de-stress the nervous systems and normalize nerve responses throughout the body. Wait a few minutes, then, do your gratitude journal!

Health & Healing Hack of the Week

Mindful Walking

walking This is a great mindfulness drill I learned about from Gary Douglas of Access Consciousness, and it is fun to do and very revealing of our motivations and true desires. There are different ways to do it, but a good starting one is to first determine a short path you are going to physically walk--say through your garden, or a short stretch of ground in a park--say, maybe 100 feet or so. Now, start walking, step by step, very slowly. As you slowly move, take in every bit of the five senses (or more). Observe the tendency to get bored, or hurry, or do something else with your mind. Instead, retrieve your attention back to the Walk. Observe the earth, the trees, the flowers, the grass, any flora and fauna, your breath, heart beat, pulses and other sensations. I've done this over a 100 foot stretch in a garden, taking 45 minutes to traverse the distance. At the end, I felt not only intimately connected with my surroundings, but also much more connected with Nature at large. The other version of this is to walk at a normal pace, but keeping your attention on everything you are sensing, and observing what the mind does. Refrain from following any particular thought sequence, such as thinking about future events, or plans, or past experiences. Keep it all in the NOW. Soon, you'll experience a deep, relaxing connection to Life and your place in the world. (From 25 No Cost Health & Healing Hacks by Boyd Martin)

Clean Sweep: Instant Relief from Negative Energies
clean sweep Clean Sweep was developed in the laboratory by a team of quantum physicists. They were researching a way to clear unwanted energies or frequencies from the lab in order to make testing more accurate. In the process of this research, they discovered a way to infuse ionized water so that when sprayed into the environment, it neutralized all forms of electromagnetic fields (EMF) and even deadly Gamma radiation. Later, in human trials, Clean Sweep showed the remarkable property of also neutralizing negative emotions and feelings in humans, and was able to reduce stress response not only in humans, but also in animals and even plants. The effect of Clean Sweep is immediate, as it swiftly calms the sympathetic and para-sympathetic nervous systems. Great for contentious business meetings, family get togethers, upset infants, stressed out pets, and even house or garden plants that have been shocked. Clean Sweep is also extremely effective in clearing energies from doctors' offices, yoga studios, healer treatment rooms, car rentals, hotel rooms and aircraft. Clean Sweep is also an excellent self-treatment aid that creates a "bubble" of zero-negative space, making it much easier to meditate or concentrate on a task. The effect lasts approximately 3-6 hours, and with a few spritzes into the corners of a room, the space is cleared. Check out the Clean Sweep testimonials, and give Clean Sweep a try! Clean Sweep is available in three sizes and a concentrate, with case prices available. MORE INFO / ORDER

Subtle Energy Infused Hemp Oil
hemp oil Vital Force Technology (VFT) lab has created Vital360 CBD formula that combines several energy patterns based on different extracts of the Cannabis plant and infused them into the full spectrum cannabinoid extract (Elixinol Hemp Oil). This differs from other hemp oils on the market in that more healing constituents of the cannabis plant are represented energetically within the oil, using a proprietary process developed by Russian physicist, Dr. Yury Kronn. This process increases the healing potential of the oil up to several orders of magnitude. Numerous studies confirm the importance of the endocannabinoid signaling system in decreasing acute and chronic pain, especially from inflammation. VitalForce360 Hemp Oil improves the body's homeostasis mechanism by supporting the human endocannabinoids system; improves overall wellness; is calming and soothing to the senses; helps replenish and sustain the body during stress; and improves poor concentration and overall weakness. Available in two levels of CBD concentrations. MORE INFO

It Really Is All Good, Man

all good I've always liked the phrase, "It's all good" -- and, to add "man" to it to bring it into the hippie vernacular. Am I old yet? But it always reminds me of an old Mexican shaman.

I guess it was about 30 years ago when I was studying with this shaman, and he asked me, "Why the long face? Life treating you bad, man?" I had been going through some marital problems, and was teetering on the brink of clinical depression, which hadn't been addressed yet. I shook my head, "It's all good, man."

The shaman chuckled, "You mean, you don't want to talk about it, or something bad has happened and you're trying to put it in a better frame?"

"I guess both," I said after a long pause.

"You know it really is all good," said the shaman. "In fact, I'd say it was fantastic!" He beamed at me, and I was a little embarrassed for some reason.

"Whaddya mean?" I asked, finally pulling my head out of my downtrodden-ness.

"I mean, the farther down the hole you go, the more likely you're gonna hit bottom, and then it's all up from there!" He was kind of dancing, and was a little too close to my personal space. I stepped back and tried to look him in the eye, but couldn't.

"Yeah, well, I'm going down for sure," I said to my shoes.

He immediately laughed and shot back, "Well, if you die, make sure to come back and look me up and let me know how you're doing." He was grinning at me like I had mud on my face and he wasn't going to say anything about it.

The whole exchange made me very uncomfortable, and after mulling it over for some years, I achieved some take-aways that have always stuck with me.

Number One: The harder things are, and if you survive, you're that much stronger for it.
Number Two: Only self-worth and self-respect are capable of turning around your life.
Number Three: Only your ego makes you feel like a failure. Your True Self is only love, so no matter who or what you are or do, it's perfect.
I had a debate with a friend recently at a coffee shop around something I'd written about re-framing, where something you consider negative happens, and you re-frame it so that there's a positive spin to it. My friend insisted that I was in denial, and that the "re-framing" I was talking about was just a rationalization.

I pointed out that would be true if I were only reacting to the negative situation with a justification for it, such as, "It wasn't my fault, because...", or, "I didn't see it coming, and didn't deserve it...", stuff like that.

re-framing When I talk about re-framing, I'm saying that it is a way of changing the past, and is actually supported by quantum physics. Something happened you interpreted as negative. You then re-visit the event, and re-contextualize it as a "life lesson", or how by creating that negative situation, you were serving your personal development.

Justifying is simply not taking responsibility for a perceived wrong or negative event. Re-framing is putting the event in the context of a higher purpose. Big difference, and it points up the power we all have to literally change the past by changing the context. Quantum physics describes a phenomenon called "reverse causation", where a future event changes a past one. And in Terence McKenna's "Timewave Zero", he speaks of a "Transcendental Object at the End of Time" that is driving all present circumstances toward a final transcendence.

For example, That fender bender I had focussed my attention on what was truly important in my life, and when I got the car repaired, we discovered other mechanical problems that would have been life threatening. This was my higher self protecting me. A justification would be to blame the other driver for stopping short.

This pivots around to the basic nature of the universe--that it is consciousness-centric, and thus, must be basically good, or it wouldn't be here. More accurately, it can be said that consciousness is love, and that only love creates. So as long as the universe exists, it's all good, man.

To your quantum health,

Boyd Martin
