Sun., Nov. 23, 1997, Lincoln City, OR, Lakeside Country Club -- We picked up the rain again in the Willamette Valley as we made our way to the beautiful Oregon Coast. By the time we got to Lincoln City it was like driving through a car wash. We unloaded at the Seahorse Motel, one of the sponsors of our upcoming concert at the country club, and they put us up in their coolest most spacious rooms with a panoramic view of the mighty Pacific Ocean through big ol' picture windows. I was really starting to feel at home! Better yet, I'm meeting Dede at the club, and she's going to be spending the night with me, and we'll drive to Portland where I'll actually be able to sleep in my own bed... Darnell gives me a lift to the club, and he graciously unloaded everything while I waited for Dede. She was late because of the rain and some delays, but it was sure great to see her. We wasted no time getting back to the motel and taking care of business...(sigh)...then, back to the club to set up in the ballroom. The place was big, and the guy putting on the show was a bit timid about saying he'd promoted the show well. They did provide us with a fine spread of hors d'ouvres, but we were starved and ordered up some fine Italian food personally served by the chef. As showtime approached, it was obvious there wasn't going to be a crowd. We started playing to about 20 people in a room built for 300, but they seemed to enjoy what they heard. We headed back to the motel, and by this time it had cleared off, so Dede and I took a romantic stroll under scudding clouds and stars with booming surf. About 10 minutes after returning to the room, we heard rain pelting on the window and wind whistling past the building...good timing. The next morning was beautiful--sun, balmy temps. Dede and I had a gourmet breakfast Oregon style and headed back home to Portland...
