Wed., Nov. 5, 1997, Evergreen, CO -- Finally arrived in Evergreen after a 24-hour van ride from Chicago via Indianapolis. We dropped off Darnell's little terror there, arriving at about 8 p.m. EST, spending 15 minutes saying goodbyes to Darnell's aunt, and then rolling over to the local buffet to carbo load before the long trek to Denver. At about 4 a.m. I drove from 50 miles east of K.C., MO, to almost Salina, KS. It was kind of weird driving past Topeka and realizing that Mom wasn't there anymore (died there last year). I managed about five hours of semi-sleep crammed in the back van seat between guitar cases and an effects box. We arrived at the Little Bear Saloon in Evergreen at about 4:30 p.m., assuming we'd be performing at 9 p.m. Wrong. The club owner had managed to double-book us with a local band, which actually was a relief. After a quick conversation, the money was to be the same and we could go relax at the band house.
